Dr. Khulood Khawaja graduated in 1995 with MBCH from Leicester University in the United Kingdom. She obtained MRCP and FRCPCH then CCST from three centre training in Pediatric Rheumatology (Newcastle upon Tyne, Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Great Ormond Street Hospital).

She was Consultant for ten years in Bradford Teaching Hospitals UK, then Al-Mafraq Hospital which then became Shaikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. She also was Chair of Paediatric Rheumatology at SSMC, Abu Dhabi in partnership with Mayo Clinic (2020 to January 2024).
Dr. Khulood contributed to international trials and Registries throughout training and consultant career (she was Local Principal Investigator of JSLE (2012-2014). As well a Local Principal Investigator of Extended biologics and etanercept registry NIHR portfolio studies (2011-2014), and Paediatric Rheumatology European Society Juvenile Dermatomyositis working group secretary (2011-2013).

Dr. Khulood is a keen Clinical Researcher and Educator and an advocate to improve understanding and contribution of health care worker to research to improve access to care and patient outcomes. She is involved in teaching and research since 1995. Understands the difficulties health care workers interested in research face to get involved in research. She was SSMC Hospital Research Ethics Committee Deputy Chair 2019–2023.

She has established with like-minded professionals Research Advisory Board and chaired at SSMC to support health workers interested in research. Mentored multiple junior doctors, fellows and medical students to complete research work.

Dr. Khulood also supervised Pediatric doctors in training to carry cross sectional survey of Pediatric Gait Arm Leg & Spine screening examination which was published and led to improved teaching of pGALS amongst Pediatric trainees. She published data on access to care and outcome measures in Juvenile Arthritis which led to improved access and improved outcome in Juvenile Arthritis in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Khulood was Program Director of Adult Rheumatology Fellowship at SSMC (2020 to 2022), Program Director for the first Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship in Abu Dhabi (September 2022 to January 2024) and obtained NIHS accreditation. Dr. Khulood works as Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the Gulf Medical School (2015-date).
